The Fanfare Monfarleau, like the brass bands of the towns and villages of yesteryear, makes us dance with quadrilles and jigs, marches and songs of La Bolduc. Arias by leading musicians of traditional music from Quebec, such as Philippe Bruneau, Jos Bouchard and Alfred Montmarquette, are vigorously taken up by brass, violin, clarinet and drum.
In Quebec, the first allusions to brass bands date back to 1792. At that time, the band was exclusively military and composed of brass instruments and sometimes percussion. The arrival of instruments from the woodwind family in the 19th century brought new sounds and the brass band became a band-band. In popular parlance, however, the term brass band will prevail. But most importantly: it is no longer just military. Towns and villages are proud to have one or more brass bands that participate in popular festivals, parades, indoor concerts or bandstands.
Created in 2008 on the initiative of Liette Remon and under her artistic direction, the Fanfare Monfarleau recreates the atmosphere of these brass bands that influenced popular and traditional music in Quebec. The music of the "old people" comes to you fresh in your hearts, with the sound of the brass bands of yesteryear.
